Southern Poverty Law Center identifies anti-gay groups as hate groups

The Southern Poverty Law Center is a non-profit civil rights law firm that is internationally renowned for its legal victories against white supremacist neo-Nazis, skinheads, and the KKK and for its tracking of hate group activities. It was founded in 1971 by Morris Dees and Joe Levin, and its first president was Julian Bond.

The Center has classified several organizations as anti-gay hate organizations whose activities go "beyond mere disagreement with homosexuality by subjecting gays and lesbians to campaigns of personal vilification". The names of many of these groups will be familiar to readers:

♦ Abiding Truth Ministries
♦ American Vision
♦ Chalcedon Foundation
♦ Family Research Institute
♦ Mass Resistance
♦ Traditional Values Coalition
♦ Watchmen on the Walls
♦ Westboro Baptist Church
